Art, Poetry and Justice SLAM

Jackson's Metro Center Mall was packed with parents and dozens of students from the Jackson metro area who participated in the Art, Poetry and Justice SLAM. On October 22, 2011, CDF-SRO partnered with The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), ACLU of Mississippi, NAACP of Mississippi, Young People’s Project of Jackson, F.A.I.T.H Inc. and other organizations to host the Justice SLAM to observe National Youth Justice Awareness Month. The event raised awareness about youth prosecuted in the adult criminal justice system. Mississippi was one of 20 states that participated in the national effort to keep children out of the adult criminal justice system and end the school to prison pipeline.
